How do I check if a car is registered in QLD?

Use the free official TMR rego check with the plate number — it shows expiry date, vehicle details and CTP insurer instantly. Our step-by-step guide covers it.

How much is rego in QLD right now?

From 1 July 2026, 12-month totals including CTP range from $782.15 (1-3 cylinders or electric) to $1494.40 (9-12 cylinders). A typical 4-cylinder car pays $864.50-$877.50. Full tables: QLD rego cost.

Why does QLD charge rego by cylinders?

Each state chooses its own method for light vehicles. Queensland (like SA and Tasmania) uses cylinder count; NSW and WA use tare weight, NT uses engine capacity and Victoria charges a flat fee.

Do electric vehicles pay less rego in QLD?

Yes — EVs are charged at the lowest tier, the same rate as 1-3 cylinder vehicles: $303.10 registration for 12 months.

Is there a grace period for expired rego?

No. Driving is illegal from the day after expiry, and plate-recognition cameras enforce it automatically. See late fees and fines.

Can I drive an unregistered car to get it inspected?

Only with an unregistered vehicle permit ($40.20/day plus CTP).

How do I transfer rego when buying privately?

Apply within 14 days with the seller's safety certificate, paying the $33.65 fee plus duty. Full process: transfer rego QLD.

Only CTP (injury liability). Damage to your car or others' property needs separate comprehensive or third-party property insurance. See CTP explained.

Can pensioners get cheaper rego?

Yes — eligible concession and seniors card holders pay roughly half the registration component on one vehicle. Rates: concession rego.

Is this site part of the Queensland Government?
