Getting the certificate
The registration certificate lists the vehicle's registration details and registered operator. TMR issues it electronically: sign in to your TMR online account and download it, opt in to email delivery so each renewal's certificate arrives automatically, or collect one at a customer service centre. There's no need to carry it in the vehicle.
Rego certificate vs safety certificate
These get confused constantly. The registration certificate is paperwork proving registration. The safety certificate is a mechanical inspection by an approved inspection station, required when a registered light vehicle is transferred to a new owner (except to licensed dealers) and when re-registering an unregistered vehicle — it's the document that matters in a transfer.
